The McLaren Senna has set a new circuit record for street-legal production cars at the Interlagos circuit in São Paulo, Brazil, with driver Ricardo Mauricio covering the 2.677 mile track in 1:37:856. The feat was achieved during a UK Motors Academy Porto Seguros event, organized by the McLaren importer in Brazil.

The McLaren Senna set a new record at the first attempt, Mauricio exiting the pits, completing one lap to find the limits of the car and then in the following lap recording 1:41:422 – 1:6 seconds faster than the previous fastest time. In the following attempts –a total of six, alternated by pit stops –the times fell, until the record mark of 1:37:856 was achieved. In total, 25 laps were completed, including the opening and return laps.

“It was sensational! I had been told that the car was exciting to drive, and it proved real on track. It is very powerful, with a very strong torque and acceleration.” – Ricardo Mauricio, Pro Driver

The UK Motors Academy Porto Seguro’s official timing was performed by Racing Crono team, one of Brazil’s most experienced and reputed timekeepers. The same company registered the previous record for unmodified street legal cars at Interlagos.

In prior years, the McLaren Senna has set fastest ever production-car lap records at several tracks in the United States with drivers from various automotive magazines at the wheel, including:

  • Automobile’s ‘Pro Racer’s Take’ with Andy Pilgrim at the Grand Course at NCM Motorsports Park, in 2:02:86
  • Fastest Performance Car of the Year (PCOY) lap-time ever at the NCM Motorsports Park during Road & Track’s ‘PCOY 2019’, completing the 2-mile NCM West Circuit in 1:23:24
  • A lap of the 4.1-mile Grand Course at Virginia International Raceway in only 2:34:9 at Car and Driver’s ‘Lightning Lap 2019’—the fastest lap ever in the competition’s then 13 years and 263 cars history that also saw the car becoming an unofficial VIR record holder
  • Motor Trend included the Senna in its selection for ‘Best Driver’s Car 2019’ where it became the first production-car to lap WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in under 1:28, finishing in 1:27:62

With active aerodynamics front and rear helping to generate with up to 1,763.7lbs of downforce, the McLaren Senna also features advanced RaceActive Chassis Control II (RCC II) suspension.

The car driven by Mauricio in Interlagos is one of four officially imported to Brazil by UK Motors, and is in completely original condition, including Pirelli Trofeo R tires.
