McLaren, the Americas debuted a special McLaren 750S to former McLaren IndyCar driver Johnny Rutherford on April 26, 2024 at its headquarters in Coppell, Texas ahead of the 2024 Indianapolis 500. The McLaren 750S was wrapped in a special livery to commemorate Rutherford’s first Indianapolis 500 victory.
In 1974, from the 25th starting position and with an average speed of 158 mph, Rutherford won the Indianapolis 500, the first of three titles he captured in Indy. This year commemorates the 50th anniversary of that first win in the iconic McLaren orange liveried M16C/D with a F1-style cockpit. Rutherford credits his first win to the McLaren team’s passion for racing.
The wrap features Johnny’s racing number, signature, and heritage McLaren logos. In addition to the McLaren 750S, two additional McLaren roadcars were wrapped in a matching livery and the trio of McLarens will be driven throughout Indianapolis ahead of this year’s Indy 500 by members of the Arrow McLaren IndyCar team.
The lightest and most powerful series-production McLaren, the new V8-engined, rear-wheel drive 750S – which is available in coupe and convertible form – is unashamedly a supercar for the purist. Designed and engineered following meticulous analysis of the renowned McLaren 720S, the new 750S combines advances in weight-saving, powertrain performance, aerodynamics and dynamic excellence to elevate a benchmark driving experience to new heights. Around 30 percent of 750S components are either new or changed in order to deliver these improvements and with them an even greater emotional connection to the car.
