H.R. Owen, the UK’s leading luxury automotive dealer group, has begun construction on a new £30m multi-brand site in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Bringing together new Lamborghini, Bentley and Maserati showrooms, it’s H.R. Owen’s latest UK investment and a major part of the brand’s expansion plans. A total of five showrooms will be built within the new Hatfield site.
Expected to be completed and operational in Q3 2022, the new statement site will not only eventually include five new showrooms, but also three new state-of-the-art aftersales facilities. In total, the site measures 110,000 sq/ft, housing not only the sales and aftersales staff of the showrooms, but also a number of H.R. Owen HQ staff.
Public-facing retail spaces are arranged as close to the highway boundaries of the site as possible with the workshop and servicing areas to inward looking spaces at the rear. A landscaped enclosure screens the workshop parking compound from the customer parking areas to ensure a high-quality human scale feel. The east complex of buildings will house four of the car showrooms, along with two workshops and offices each surrounding a shared mall area. The West portion of the site will house the one further car showroom on the ground and first floors. To the rear will be additional workshop spaces and two storeys of internal vehicle storage.
While construction is underway, local customers are still able to visit temporary Bentley and Lamborghini showrooms on-site, with service, maintenance and repair taken care of at existing H.R. Owen Bentley and H.R. Owen Lamborghini sites elsewhere.
Bentley Hatfield joins H.R. Owen-operated Bentley sites in Surrey, Berkshire and the world’s oldest Bentley showroom, Jack Barclay, in Mayfair. Bentley Surrey moved into an all-new showroom and aftersales site in April 2021, and Jack Barclay was treated to a multi-million-pound renovation in 2018 as H.R. Owen continues to invest in the UK and in its customer experience.
Lamborghini Hatfield sits alongside Lamborghini London, Lamborghini Manchester and Lamborghini Pangbourne in the H.R. Owen line-up, the latter of which was thoroughly renovated in 2019. Likewise, the Maserati element of the Hatfield site joins Maserati London and Maserati Manchester.
With continued investment, H.R. Owen further cements its position as the UK’s leading luxury automotive dealer group. It operates one of just two Bugatti sales operations in Britain, was awarded UK Dealer of the Year by Aston Martin in 2020, Global Dealer of the Year by Rolls-Royce in 2018, Global Dealer of the Year by Ferrari in 2016 and its showrooms regularly rank among the most successful in the world for their parent brands. The Jack Barclay Service Centre in Wandsworth also holds a Royal Warrant for Service and Repair of Her Majesty The Queen’s Motor Vehicles.
Ken Choo, H.R. Owen CEO, said: “Since H.R. Owen was founded in 1932 with just a single Bentley and Rolls-Royce showroom, the brand has continued to expand on its exemplary reputation for the finest cars and the finest customer service. The latest stage in this expansion first began in 2013 with the takeover by the Berjaya Group, and will enter its next phase with the construction of this flagship site in Hatfield; bringing to life the vision of our Chairman, Vincent Tan.
In recent years, we have invested millions in our sales and aftersales operations, ensuring we’re reaching more customers with the kind of class-leading service we’re known for. And in 2021, in the midst of a lot of uncertainty, we’re showing our commitment to the UK and to our customers, not just with the development at Hatfield, but with a new global flagship Rolls-Royce showroom in Mayfair and an all-new Bentley showroom in Surrey, too.”
