Automotive auction platform and enthusiast community Bring a Trailer (BaT) today announced it has set a new sales record in 2021 for both the total number and value of vehicles sold on its site. In 2021, the site hosted 21,349 total auctions with 17,846 successful sales for a total value of $828M in vehicles sold, a 108% increase over the previous year. Based on the publicly available data of classic and collector vehicle auction results, this positions Bring a Trailer as the top auction destination for classic and collector cars.

“With the changing times of what is considered a classic or collector car, Bring a Trailer has become more relevant than ever with our breadth of auctions and valuation trend data to back it up. The expansion of the BaT community, our low fees, and the ever-increasing visibility of our online listings is what has fueled such growth. Our team has done an amazing job of maintaining our trademark quality and a high sale rate, even at this scale.” – co-founder and president Randy Nonnenberg

Founded in 2007 to connect buyers and sellers of classic, collector and enthusiast vehicles, Bring a Trailer curates vehicles submitted by sellers and helps them craft transparent auction listings that present the vehicles as they are. A knowledgeable community of more than 709,000 enthusiasts provides feedback on auctions so potential buyers can bid with confidence; nearly two million comments were made in 2021 alone. From its inception, that transparency and easily accessible data have set BaT apart in the industry and fueled steady growth in auction listings and registered bidders. At the end of a successful auction, Bring a Trailer connects the seller and buyer so they can work together to complete the transaction.

Bring a Trailer makes its data readily available so both buyers and sellers can make informed decisions on vehicle values and market trends. All auction results are permanently viewable on the website and data can be sorted by date, auction type, vehicle category, make and model, result and more.

In addition to the market-leading auction and sale value numbers, Bring a Trailer saw a sell rate of more than 83% for the year. The top five vehicle categories by sales volume (in order) for 2021 were German, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche; American, including American-made marques across muscle cars, trucks/SUVs, and classics; Convertibles across all marques and vintages; Japanese, including Datsun, Nissan, Toyota, and more; and British, including Austin-Healey, Bentley, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lotus, and more.

Bring a Trailer also hosts charity auctions. In 2021, more than $2M in auction sales and donated listing fees was raised for charities.

Bring a Trailer anticipates its community-based auction model will continue to set the tone for the classic and collector car auction industry into 2022. Through enhancements like partnerships with top enthusiast-based organizations such as the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association and integrated shipping quotes and services, BaT will continue to evolve and attract enthusiasts and collectors across categories.

All auction data and statistics should be considered accurate as of December 31, 2021.
