Lotus has taken the Emira deeper into the territory that made the marque famous: less weight, sharper response and a more direct line between driver input and chassis reaction. The new Emira 420 Sport sits at the top of the Emira range, bringing more power, more downforce and a more focused hardware package to Lotus’ mid-engine sports car.

The headline number is 414 horsepower from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, matched to 369 lb-ft. of torque and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Lotus quotes 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph, giving the 420 Sport the strongest performance numbers yet for the Emira line.

Lotus calls the car “a pure expression” of its DNA, and the changes support that message. With the optional Lightweight Handling Pack, the Emira 420 Sport is 25 kg – 55 pounds – lighter than the Emira Turbo and produces 25 kg of additional downforce. The pack brings two-way adjustable Multimatic dampers, a titanium exhaust, a lithium-ion battery, carbon fiber components and a Lotus Track Performance app for logging lap data.

COOLING, AERO AND THE ESPRIT ECHO

The aero update is purposeful rather than ornamental. A new front splitter, revised front vents, extended side sills, larger air intakes, a lip spoiler and a louvred tailgate all work toward more consistent performance under load. Lotus says airflow to the outboard radiators increases by 15 percent, central radiator airflow by 14 percent, brake cooling by 10 percent and exhaust valve airflow by 30 percent.

The shape also carries a subtle nod to the Esprit Turbo, particularly in the way the new louvred tailgate and cooling details add visual function to the rear of the car. On the 420 Sport, the design language is not simply about looking more aggressive; it is tied to cooling, stability and repeatable track work without an increase in drag.

CHASSIS FOCUS

The Emira already trades heavily on Lotus’ reputation for steering feel and chassis balance. For the 420 Sport, the ride height drops by 5 mm, suspension settings are revised and high-performance tires are fitted to give the car a more alert connection to the road.

The core architecture remains familiar and important: a bonded aluminum chassis, double wishbone suspension and electro-hydraulic power steering. That last detail matters in a modern performance landscape that often filters too much through software. Lotus continues to lean on physical feedback as part of the Emira experience.

Gavin Kershaw, Director of Attributes at Lotus Cars, described the 420 Sport as an extension of a platform already known for ride and handling. His summary was simple: “Every detail obsessively engineered to put the driver more in control.”

INSIDE AND OPEN TO THE AIR

The cabin stays focused on road and track use, with 12-way adjustable seats, a driver-oriented layout, updated haptics and new carbon fiber gearshift paddles. Lotus is also offering new personalization options, including an exterior carbon fiber pack and two cabin packs.

The Carbon Fiber Pack changes the driver display surround, steering wheel center spoke and seatback logo surround. A Hand Painted Pack uses the Tangelo Orange launch color for highlights across the center console, steering wheel spoke, gear lever inner and air vent surrounds.

The most notable range-wide update is the arrival of a removable tinted glass roof panel for the Emira. Inspired by the Esprit, the panel can be removed quickly and stored behind the seats in a protective bag, shifting the Emira between coupe and open-air configurations without changing the underlying dynamic setup.

A BRIGHT LAUNCH COLOR AND A DRIVER-FIRST BRIEF

Tangelo Orange is unique to the Emira 420 Sport and continues Lotus’ history of vivid orange paintwork. It suits the character of the model: technical, bright and unapologetically focused. The broader palette spans 16 colors, with nine wheel designs and finishes available, including new 20-inch 15-spoke forged alloy wheels in satin dark grey.

Qingfeng Feng, CEO of Lotus Group, said the 420 Sport shows that Lotus is listening to customers, calling it “a car for the drivers.” That phrase is the anchor of the whole project. In a segment increasingly defined by powertrains, screens and complexity, the Emira 420 Sport is positioned around the older Lotus values of lightness, response and feedback.

Orders are open now, with customer deliveries expected from August 2026. Starting prices are listed at $122,900 in the United States, £105,900 in the United Kingdom and €129,900 in Europe, excluding options, specifications, taxes and delivery charges.
