A limited-edition Aston Martin sportscar – the only one of its kind in Hong Kong – is being offered by MF Jebsen Group in aid of wildlife and environmental causes, in an online timed auction staged by international house Bonhams, launched today (7 May) through 5 June on Bonhams.com. The prized model is now on display at The Peninsula Hong Kong.
The Gulf Blue variant is one of Aston Martin’s limited series of 60 Vantage Heritage Racing Edition models, celebrating the marque’s motorsport heritage. Twelve of these are finished in the ‘Gulf Blue’ livery, honouring the Le Mans winning DBR9, of which the car offered is the sole example delivered to Hong Kong. Its showroom list price is HK$3.48 million.
The luxury sportscar has been donated by MF Jebsen Group – the exclusive Aston Martin dealer in Hong Kong and Macau – as the only lot in the special online auction on Bonhams.com.
Interested parties will be able to place their bids (starting from a minimum of HK$900,000) from now until the close of the auction at 18.00 on Saturday 5 June. Proceeds will be donated to Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden, funding projects for the protection of endangered species and restoration of the local ecosystem; as well as to the winning bidder’s beneficiary of choice from a designated list of charitable organisations, with nature conservation as their main focus.
This is the first motor car sale staged in Hong Kong by Bonhams, which is renowned worldwide for hosting auctions of significant and historic collectors’ motor cars. The house has set many world records with its sales, including the sale of a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta at its 2014 Quail Lodge Auction – the most expensive car to be sold at auction at that time.
“We are delighted to extend our collectors’ motor car offering to Hong Kong, a market to which Bonhams has long been committed. It is all the more meaningful that this exciting moment comes in support for a worthy cause with MF Jebsen and The Peninsula.” – Co-Chairman of Bonhams Group Malcolm Barber
From today through 7 June, the Vantage is being displayed in the foyer of the prestigious Peninsula Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.
Bonhams Hong Kong holds nearly 40 sales a year, across the specialist areas of Chinese ceramics and works of art, Chinese paintings, Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian art, modern and contemporary art, watches, jewellery, wine and whisky, and now with this first online-only sale – motor cars.
