The Speed Journal is pleased to announce Team Principal Jeff Francis will be racing a very significant and historic 1962 Jaguar E-Type at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion in August. In 1961 the first two production E-Types appeared at the Geneva Motor Show and were an instant sensation, offering a 150 mph top speed, independent rear suspension, a comfortable ride, exemplary handling and astonishing good looks all at a relatively affordable price.
This particular car was first acquired in 1962 by Kjell Qvale, head of San Francisco’s British Motor Car Distributors, the West Coast importer for Jaguar cars. It was then taken for race modifications to Joe Huffaker, a specialist in the design of competition engines and race cars, for 1960’s SCCA road racing. Making an astonishing 285 horsepower and 345 lb-ft of torque, the Huffaker E-Type powered to victory in the Modified/Production class at Laguna Seca in 1963. Current owner, Larry Oka performed an extensive Concours restoration on this stunning 1962 Jaguar E-Type.
