This is particular Dino GTS is a standard USA/North American Market, export vehicle that was ordered new by the West Coast Ferrari distributor, Harrah’s Modern Classic Motors of Reno, Nevada. The order was on behalf of authorized Ferrari Agent, Ron Tonkin Ferrari of Portland, Oregon. The order was placed in December of 1972 and specified a very standard USA/North American Market model in the standard colors of red/black with air conditioning and power window.

The assembly of this Dino was completed in February of 1973 and it was delivered shortly thereafter to Ron Tonkin Ferrari where it was offered for retail sale. On August 20th of the same year, regular Ferrari Club of America member, Jim Cooke of Seattle, Washington agreed to the purchase. Cooke’s ownership of this Dino was well documented over the next 13 years when he apparently sold or consigned the car to Hollywood Sports Cars in Beverly Hills, California. The car had recorded just 16,000 miles at this point and it remained painted in red. Hollywood Sports Cars then offered the car for sale over the next four years until it was finally sold late in 1989 to a private Museum collection in Japan.

After arrival in Japan, the new owners stripped the car to bare metal and repainted it “Giallo Fly” (Fly Yellow) along with the removable roof panel. The seats were redone in a dark burgundy with black inserts. The original USA odometer was removed and a new European one installed. The odometer was advanced to reflect just over 16,000 kilometers which was the car’s previous mileage before import from the States. The new owners also purchased a complete set of five light alloy “Campagnollo” wheels and installed them with Pirelli tires. During the full repaint, the side marker and rear taillights were converted to European specifications and they remain so to this day.

In Januar of 2015, this Dino was purchased by our company and formally imported to the States. Recorded mileage at the time was 18,534 kilometers indicating the car had covered roughly 2,500 kilometers during the 25 years it had resided in Japan.

This Dino was sold prior to arrival to a friend of our company. On arrival, the “Targa” roof section was repainted back to the correct black and the car completely serviced and new tires fitted. The new owner enjoyed the car over the next four years covering just over 1,000 additional kilometers in that time frame.

This rust and accident free, matching number, Dino is now offered for public sale once again. Please contact me for additional assistance or to arrange for inspections and test drives.

Kind regards always,

Bill Noon
