Porsche is making a car for these drivers again, offering a sportier version of the 6-cylinder 911 dubbed the 911S. S for Super. Super because horsepower is up 20%, from 148 to 180. Super because the brake discs are vented. And Super because the suspension has been modified with strengthened struts, Koni adjustable shocks, a stiffer front anti-sway bar, and an anti-sway bar added at the rear The 911 S picked up its added power via 9.8:1 compression, forged light-alloy pistons, larger 42-mm intake valves and 38-mm exhaust valves, forged connecting rods, and a pair of 40-mm Weber downdraft carburetors. This powerplant gave the new 911 S sparkling performance: 0–60 in 6.5 seconds and a maximum of 140 mph, said Car and Driver magazine.
There were ventilated disc brakes at all four corners, surrounded by 4.5-in. wide steel wheels, with Fuchs alloys available as an option for the first time.
