The Trident’s Italian sporting tradition returns to the United States. After starring in the GT America powered by AWS at the renowned Indianapolis Motor Speedway circuit in October, Maserati Corse is proud to announce that its Maserati GT2 and MCXtrema standard-bearers are now eligible for the endurance races in the International GT championship, in the GTX category.

Maserati – an icon in global motorsport – thus reiterates its focus on the US, a priority market for the Modena-based brand, now aiming to compete during the 2026 season at some of the most iconic American circuits, including Laguna Seca and COTA.

For the first time, the MCXtrema beast – the essence of the Trident’s performance – will also be taking to the kerbs in competition with other cars, to unleash the full 730-HP power of its engine based on the iconic Maserati Nettuno.

The International GT Championship is a North American racing series, where the greatest GT cars of the day are driven on legendary circuits.

Its main focus is sports drivers, with occasional participation of professional drivers and coaches in endurance races. The classes within the categories are based on engine displacement, with competition for season championships; from 2026, it will be flinging open its shutters to Maserati racing cars, now eligible to compete in the GTX category.

The 2026 schedule consists of ten events: Sebring (26 February-1 March), Road Atlanta (March 12-15), Lime Rock (May 21-23), Mid-Ohio (June 11-14), Road America (June 25-28), Watkins Glen (July 16-19), VIR – Virginia International Raceway (September 17-20), Laguna Seca (October 2-4), Barber Motorsports Park (October 16-18) and the grand finale at COTA – Circuit of the Americas (November 5-8).

As well as the International GT, on US soli the Maserati GT2 is also eligible for the GT America powered by AWS championship, where sprint racing will be returning to the fore in exciting multi-class races in a single-driver format, reserved for Bronze level drivers.

The super sports racing car – which has brought the Trident back to competing and winning in closed-wheel championships – can now take part in over 20 series on all five continents.

The Maserati GT2 is preparing to excel in the major 2026 series around the world, with an expansion of the pool of customer drivers and teams aiming to take to the track and win courtesy of the legendary performance the Trident manufacturer has been bringing to racetracks for almost a century.
