The Historic Motoring Awards, presented by Octane magazine, today announced that the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion has been shortlisted as a finalist in the 2021 Motorsport Event of the Year category. The historic racing and lifestyle event was held August 12-15 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and celebrated the 55th anniversary of Ford in Trans-Am as featured marque.

Now in its eleventh year, the Historic Motoring Awards brings together the elite in the world of classic cars to reward the people, events, museums, clubs, series, books and films that have marked the year in a wide range of categories established by the experts from Octane and an international panel.

The winners in each of the 16 categories will be announced at a gala celebration to be held at the Rosewood Hotel in London November 18. To view all the finalists, please visit Historic Motoring Awards.

“It is an honor to have such an esteemed international organization and panel of judges select the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion as a finalist for this recognition,” said John Narigi, president and general manager of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. “It is particularly gratifying to have it be the only U.S. gathering nominated for the Motorsport Event of the Year. Our entire team appreciates the many participants who shared their incredible race cars with guests, and a worldwide audience who watched the daily live coverage.”

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion returned in 2021 with a fury from a pandemic-laden year to bring historic race cars and new features. More than 400 authentic race cars competed in 14 different race groups over the four days that was highlighted by a full field of historic Trans-Am cars. Complementing the elaborate Ford display, which was adjacent to the highly-regarded Rolex Drivers Club, was a special exhibit of the original five winners of the Pebble Beach Road Races, a colorful Indy Car Heritage Display, pre-1920 Ragtime Racers staged in front of a purpose-built 1920s working garage, and cars from La Carrera Panamericana.

The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is one of the cornerstones of the acclaimed Monterey Car Week, held annually in August.
