The Speed Journal’s intent is to put our followers, the racing and performance car enthusiast, in the driver’s seat by sharing our first-hand experiences in a style that is thrilling, accurate and accessible. We send our Executive Editor into the field to drive many of the world’s legendary racing venues, from track laps to driving schools to racing events. Placing him behind the wheel of some of the most fascinating street and race cars on the planet. Occasionally we stray, but for the most part, we choose unique adventures that anyone can participate in, fulfilling their own “Speed Fantasy” wish list. The Speed Journal also handpicks and highlights in-depth features on exotic, performance, sports and collector cars, along with current racing news to share with our audience.

Jeff's fascination with cars was nascent since his childhood. After landing a podium finish in his first race at Laguna Seca, he went on to earn numerous class victories, and is a past SCCA San Francisco Region Champion. He’s driven numerous road courses, some of which are Nurburgring, Spa-Francorchamps, Laguna Seca, & Watkins Glen. Jeff credits his late father, fellow racer Ben Francis, for instilling in him not only a love for the sport of racing, but respect for the many collector cars they restored and enjoyed together. Marques such as Porsche, Jaguar, Ferrari, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo, & Shelby have all passed through Jeff’s diverse collection over the years. Among his recent accomplishments are driving at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and being accepted by Ford to order the 2017 Ford GT.
Steve, a marketing expert and automotive junky, started his love affair with the automobile at an early age. Born into a racing family, he grew up around high-performance cars and different racing series. By the time he was in his teens he was already known as an encyclopedia of motorsports knowledge, especially open-wheeled racing and its history. He has worked closely with our founder on motorsports and collector car projects for over 20 years. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Marketing & Finance and has an extensive background in marketing and multi-media development. Through the years Steve has operated several web-based businesses and marketing companies while still maintaining his love affair with cars and racing.
John has always had a love for anything speed related. His father was always buying and building cars. As a teenager he started water skiing, snow skiing and riding motorcycles. He began racing and tracking motorcycles in his early 40s. He has owned race bikes from Ducati, Aprilia, and Triumph. He currently runs track days on his Yamaha R1 at most California tracks including, Laguna Seca, Willow Springs, Thunderhill & Buttonwillow. He is also looking to get his first muscle car in the near future.
Clayton Moore has spent more than a decade covering thrilling stories around the globe. From interviewing NASA astronauts to meeting the surviving members of The Great Escape, Clayton has told the stories of some of the fastest people alive. Other personalities he has profiled include motorcycle legend Ed Kretz Jr., actors Samuel L. Jackson, Mike Tyson, and Cary Elwes and CIA agent Valerie Plame, among many others. He lives in Monterey, California, home to the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
After mistakenly drinking motor oil as a child, Jonathan has had the stuff in his veins ever since. Growing up, he went from go-carts and dirt bikes to cars. After discovering in high school he wanted to become an automotive journalist, he took mass media classes, joined the SCCA and landed a job at Thunderhill Raceway. Working on his own cars and attending various races and car meets, he began to hone his skills. Focusing on digital video production, Jonathan earned a Bachelors Degree in Communications from CSU Sacramento.
Ryan Patrick, a contributing editor here at The Speed Journal, cut his teeth on the streets of Detroit. While he will always consider the famed Woodward Ave. to be home, Patrick now resides on a farm in the hills of Western Michigan. His love of The Great American Roadtrip seems to be his undoing, with most weekends spent traversing the National Highway System. Patrick has wheeled everything from a 1953 MG TD Mk. II Competition to a Tesla P90D.
Hilary has been an Executive Assistant for many companies over the years. She enjoys coming along side business owners and helping them accomplish their goals. Hillary loves cool cars; with her favorites being the 1967 Chevy Camaro and the 1967 Shelby Cobra. Hillary has plans of purchasing a small fast sports car someday, for her and her husband to cruise the California coast line. Her favorite past time is viewing wildlife from her beautiful home in the Sierra foothills.
